A flap is a high-lift device used to reduce the stalling speed of an aircraft wing at a given weight. Flaps are usually mounted on the wing trailing edges of a fixed-wing aircraft. Flaps are used to reduce the take-off distance and the landing distance. Flaps also cause an increase in drag so they are retracted when not needed. WebbThe base of the flap must be broader than the free gingival margin, to ensure adequate blood supply and to promote healing. The flap itself must be larger than the bone deficit so that the flap margins, when sutured, are resting on intact, healthy bone and not over missing or unhealthy bone, thus preventing flap dehiscence and tearing.
Webb7 juli 2024 · Smaller aircraft have flaps of an appropriate size that are attached to the wings by hinges. Extending the wing flaps increases the curvature, or camber, of the wing surfaces, allowing the aircraft to generate the necessary lift at a slower speed. This reduces the minimum speed, or stall speed, the plane needs to maintain flight safely.
